As Ortega Elementary PTA, we enhance the quality of our students’ education by fostering involvement from parents and the community.
Our Mission
The mission of Parent-Teacher Associations is to make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children. Ortega shares in this mission by partnering with the Texas PTA and the National PTA.
What is PTA?
PTA is a grassroots organization made up of parents, teachers and others around the state who have an interest in children, families and schools. PTA membership is as diverse as Texas is in cultures, education levels and parenting skills. By joining PTA, a member becomes part of the largest child advocacy organization in the state with over 500,000 members across Texas.
What does the PTA do?
There are three main ways that PTAs support our schools:
- We advocate for our children by coordinating with teachers, administrators and staff to help provide programs and resources that are needed,
- We provide our time and energy to the school by volunteering and organizing programs, and
- We fundraise for these programs that benefit all children at school.
Why should I join the PTA?
Ortega PTA’s sole purpose is to advocate for your child’s education and well-being. Being a part of the PTA allows you get connected with the school, have access to great resources on the Texas PTA website, speak up for change and progress at Brentwood, be a part of the solution, and serve as a good role model for your child and all the children at our school.
How can I join the PTA?
You can join anytime during the PTA membership year, which runs from early August through late July of the current school year. Most parents and faculty join in the first months of each new school year. You can also join through the Texas PTA’s dedicated link, JoinPTA.org. Be sure to select Ortega Elementary in Austin ISD.
