A NEW SCHOOL YEAR!

It is so wonderful to have ALL of our AVID students back in our classrooms! The start of the school year has been full and exciting. We have used the past few weeks to get to know one another and learn what being an AVID student and an AVID family is all about.

AVID OVERVIEW

“AVID's mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.” AVID is designed as a student-centered support system, based on the principles of Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization and Reading. Students work individually, in small groups and with the class as a whole to improve their academic, interpersonal, and intrapersonal skills.

A GLIMPSE INTO OUR AVID CLASSROOMS

  • Students were introduced to the 5 learning strategies that will stretch our brains the most in each of our classes - Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading

  • We discussed why asking questions is so important to the learning process and explored what kind of questions make us think deeply and critically.

  • Students have routinely practiced using organizational systems such as agendas, folders, and/or binders. Organization is essential!

  • Students are beginning to explore the ideas of engaging and interacting with their academic notes.

  • And last but not least, we are dipping our toes in the idea of successfully managing our time!
